In recent weeks, Ariana Grande has been severely criticized by her fans and followers, as it is clear that the actress and singer has suffered a dramatic weight loss, causing her to look much thinner than normal.
Ariana has come to her defense and has revealed that her weight loss is due to hypoglycemia, a disease she has suffered for several years.
“I have hypoglycemia, so sometimes I get anxious if I forget to eat. When I was a kid, I would turn into the Tasmanian devil,” the singer revealed.
What is hypoglycemia?
Hypoglycemia occurs when blood sugar levels are below normal, which can cause anxiety, paleness, lightheadedness, dizziness, headache, among others.
In many cases, like Ariana’s, it also causes dramatic weight loss.
Ariana Grande defends herself against criticism for her extreme thinness
A few days ago, Ariana was caught on the Ronnie Scott show, and her slim figure caused strong criticism and even concern, some media say that she has lost up to 12 kilos.
Some of the comments from Ariana’s fans were:
“I’m worried that Ariana Grande is getting thinner,” “Does anyone realize how thin Ariana Grande is getting? It is that I worry more and more ”,“ I am concerned about her health ”, she reads herself among the prominent comments on social networks.
Seeing these criticisms for her physical appearance, Ariana decided to defend herself with a statement on social networks:
“I don’t do this often. I don’t like it, I’m not good at it,” she began. “But I just wanted to address her concerns about my body and talk a little bit about what it means to be a person with a body, to be seen and have so much attention.”
The singer also asked her fans to be kinder to people, and stop judging and criticizing them for their physical appearance.
“I think we should be kinder and less comfortable commenting on people’s bodies, no matter what. If you think you’re saying something nice or well-intentioned, whatever, wholesome, unwholesome, big, little, this, that, sexy, not sexy,” she said. “We just shouldn’t.”
She also assured that many times what we think is healthy is not always the case, and it was precisely what was happening to her.
“I also wanted to say, one, there are many different types of beauty. There are many ways to look healthy and beautiful. And personally for me, the body you’ve been comparing my current body to was the less healthy version of my body.
I was on a lot of antidepressants and I was drinking with them and I was eating badly and I was at the lowest point in my life when I looked the way they think I was healthy, but in fact that was not healthy.”
Ariana ended the statement by ensuring that no one knows what people are going through, and therefore we should not judge them by how they look.
“You never know what someone is going through, so even if you come from a loving or caring place, that person is probably working on it or has a support system that they are working with. You never know, so be kind to each other and to yourself.”
