The new live action that Disney prepares about ‘The Little Mermaid’ is causing a stir before it is even released. Rob Marshalldirector of this new adaptation, does not understand the wave of hatred that has aroused between certain sectors.
“There was no schedule”
The next live action version of the Disney classic ‘The Little Mermaid’ has aroused so much a great illusion in a large part of its target audience like an exacerbated hatred in people who would not see the film even if Halle Bailey was not the protagonist.
Rob Marshall (‘Chicago’) was moved by the enthusiasm that was arousing and surprised by the controversy:
I didn’t anticipate (the controversy) because I thought we were past this kind of thing. But then you realize it’s not. I was really moved to see how important this type of casting is to people.
He was also blunt in the face of criticism against Bailey, stating that “there was no agenda” and they chose the actress who had all the characteristics that the role required:
We were looking for the best actress for the role, period. We saw all the candidates, of all ethnicities. We wanted to find someone who was incredibly strong, passionate, beautiful, intelligent, and brilliant. Someone who had a lot of fire and joy.
Marshall is full of praise about the work of Halle Bailey, of whom His great voice also stands out, one of the identifying traits of the character. The live-action version of ‘The Little Mermaid’ will be released in theaters on May 26, 2023.
