‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ is sweeping box offices around the world and the film’s main villain, Namor, has surprised Marvel fans; however, it is unlikely that he could have his own movie.
The adaptation of Namor as a powerful Mayan god, played by the Mexican actor tenoch orchardhas pleasantly surprised critics and fans, so much so that some have already begun to imagine that character in a movie starring him.
However, Nate Moore, producer of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”, has just cut the illusions of the Namor fans, He revealed to TheWrap that Disney will not be able to produce an independent film about the character.
The explanation is that Namor no longer belongs to Marvelbecause that company sold the rights of that character to Universal Studios, so he cannot star in a Marvel movie, to do so it would have to be a film produced by Universal.
Due to this contract, Namor cannot star in his own Marvel movie, because Universal Pictures has the rights to the character. Nor can it appear alone in marketing materials, unless it’s part of a poster series.
“Honestly it affects us more, and it’s not to talk too much outside of the school, but in how we market the movie than how we use it in the movie,” Moore told TheWrap of the limitations related to Namor.
Despite this situation, It’s not that Namor won’t be coming back to the MCU.as the producer of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” confirmed to TheWrap: “He may come back”.
This was the sale of Namor to Universal
TheWrap explains that before Marvel Studios made “Iron Man” as an independently produced film, the company was in the habit of licensing or selling the rights to characters to other studios: the X-Men went to Fox, Spider-Man to sony etc Y Namor to Universalalong with Hulk.
