According to Bolaños’ own memoirs, “La Chilindrina” was just the little girl’s nickname. In fact, her real name was ‘Espergencia’; however, they decided to give it a nickname that was easier for the public to remember.
In this regard, the actress María Antonieta de las Nieves delved into the subject in an interview and stated that they chose “La Chilindrina” thanks to its similarities with a traditional Mexican bread.
“In Mexico there is a very rich bread, which is sweet, which is eaten with chocolate or coffee, and is called chilindrina, because it has pimples, like my freckles. It’s just that they also have freckles, no more than their freckles are sweet, burnt sugar!” Said the famous in an interview with Radio Caracol in Colombia.
