The new Animal Welfare law is taking shape little by little, while government frictions are resolved and it ends up being officially implemented. They already announced one of the most controversial issues with the list of animals prohibited as pets. But now they have clarified the amount of the fine in case of having them and it could hurt your economy a lot.
The new animal law in Spain comes with a list of prohibited pets, among which are rodents, rabbits, turtles, birds, exotic reptiles and spiders. Nevertheless, They had not yet clarified what would happen if we adopt or buy one of these animals with the law already in force.
The fine in question for having one of these animals at home, is between 600 and 30,000 euros. When deciding what exact amount in this range you should pay, factors such as recidivism, whether harm has been caused to the animal or whether there is intentionality involved, come into play.
Don’t panic if one of these prohibited animals is already at home and is your best friend. You won’t have to get rid of it, far from it. The law contemplates these pets prior to its entry into force. You just have to know what to do to have a pet on the prohibited list at home, which is to register it and have it properly vaccinated.
