Despite the fact that ‘Call me by your name’ received quite positive opinions, it was dotted with several controversies that have overshadowed the film to the point of not knowing if the commented sequel will ever be made. one of them was the departure of james ivoryscriptwriter, that he wanted Shia LaBeaouf as Oliver.

‘Call me by your name’ is the adaptation directed by Luca Guadagnino of the homonymous novel by André Aciman. Starring Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer, the script was written by James Ivory, who Originally I was going to be more involved in the project and even co-direct it:
When I gave them my script, they accepted it without changing anything or asking for any rewrites. The money was found right away to make the film and they paid me. The last time I saw Luca was before shooting started, in New York, when I still thought we would direct it together. We were joking and laughing thinking what would happen if we got mad during the shoot. And suddenly, I was out. They never told me why they kicked me out.
Ivory had quite different ideas from those that were later embodied in the film, starting with the cast: he wanted Greta Scacchi to play Elio’s mother and Shia LaBeaouf to play Oliver, roles that in the end were played by Amira Casar and Armie Hammer respectively. The scriptwriter insisted a lot to contact the actors but Guadagnino opted for others without consulting him.
Besides, Ivory had a different vision of how to show sex scenes in the film, even taking into account the clause imposed by the actors not to do frontal nudity: “The sex sequence should not have ended in such an anodyne way,” he pointed out.
It is less striking that the options for Oliver were both actors accused of physical abuse (and many more charges, in the case of Hammer). While we’ll never know what Ivory’s version would have looked like, at least was able to console himself with the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay.
