The helmets are certified replicas of the safety accessories used by the Mexicans during their time in the category, just on the 60th anniversary of the first Mexican GP in the Mexican capital.
In the 2021 season, Valtteri Bottas was the pole position winner and received a replica helmet from Argentine legend Juan Manuel Fangio. For this occasion, the Fangio Foundation, together with the Organizing Committee of the Mexican Grand Prix, decided to maintain the unique award but now with a Tribute to the Rodríguez brothers.
“The Rodríguez Brothers are a benchmark for motorsports not only in Mexico, but also in Latin America and throughout the world. I am sure that just as Valtteri was honored to receive Fangio’s replica, the 2022 pole winner will be honored with both helmets and right on Ricardo’s 60th anniversary of death and six decades since the arrival of the Formula 1 to our country”, says Federico González Compeán, general director of the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Mexico 2022, presented by Heineken.
Ricardo Rodríguez de la Vega holds the record for the youngest Ferrari driver in participating in a Formula 1 GP, while Pedro is a world icon by winning two Grand Prix, as well as the 24 Hostas de Le Mans and the 24 Hours of Daytona.
The youngest of the Rodríguez family competed in the 1961 Italian GP, where he qualified in the front row at just 19 years old, making him the record for the youngest driver in the entire championship for 19 years. Currently this record is held by the Dutchman Max Verstappen.
The Mexican Grand Prix will be from October 28 to 30 at the Ricardo y Pedro Rodríguez de la Vega Autodrome, popularly known as the “Hermanos Rodríguez Autodrome”.
