Netflix has decided to intensify the promotional campaign of ‘Bird Box: Barcelona’, a film that aims to be the most ambitious science fiction ever made in Spain -there are some very good ones, but none on such a large scale-. Of course, it does not appear out of nowhere, since it is a spin-off of ‘Blindly’, the successful feature film starring Sandra Bullock in 2018.
The collapse of Barcelona
A month ago we were able to see a brief first advance that left a good feeling, but this final trailer reveals much more than what awaits us, from the collapse of the catalan capital even its protagonists blindly so as not to end up losing their lives because of some mysterious creatures. After the initial madness, the film will then focus on what happens just six months later.
It is clear that Netflix wants ‘Blindly’ to become its first global franchise, since the idea is to make a multitude of spin-offs located in different stages of the world to offer a much broader vision of what happened. To do this they will have to be inventive, since ‘Blindly’ was based on a novel by Josh Malerman which had a sequel in 2020, but they will be reserving that for a possible return of Bullock to this unexpected science fiction franchise.
On this occasion the responsibility has fallen on the brothers Alex Pastor and David Pastor, who have proven to move freely in the post-apocalyptic genre with titles such as ‘Infected’ or ‘The last days’. For the occasion they wanted to have again Mario Casaswho already appeared in ‘Home’, his previous feature film.
The premiere of ‘Bird Box: Barcelona’ on Netflix is scheduled for the next July 14.
