The ‘Grand Prix’ (AKA ‘Summer Grand Prix’) is finally back, but we still have to wait a bit. The mythical contest confirms that it will return in 2023 from the hand of Ibai Llanos and Ramón García, presenter of previous editions.
Ramón & Ibai present…
One of the most anticipated television returns in recent years is that of the ‘Grand Prix’. The beloved program was broadcast between 1995 and 2009, in two different stages and presented respectively by Ramón García and Bertín Osborne. In November 2021, during an interview by Ramón García with the streamer Ibai Llanos, they surprised us by announcing their purpose of bringing back the ‘Grand Prix’ on the Twitch platform.
García and Llanos, who presented the chimes together, then made the proposal to revive the format 13 years after its last broadcast and, later, García confirmed that the program would be done in a “more modern” way and that they would not have the traditional heifer test because “the new animal protection law does not allow it”.
Finally, it has not been able to arrive in time for this summer and it is expected to have it ready for 2023, as communicated through networks. The project is well advanced, having already held meetings with potential sponsors. The companies involved in its development are Europroducciones (producer of the original ‘Grand Prix’) and Kosmos (which represents Ibai itself).

According to El Confidencial, the main obstacle that the proposal is finding to get ahead is financing, due to the high format cost. Among its current needs is to set up facilities where the typical gymkhana-type tests can be carried out. At the moment, it is expected to obtain income through the product placement integrated into the contest itself.
‘El Grand Prix del Verano’ obtained very high audience ratings during its broadcast on La 1 and later on the regional channels (through the agreement with FORTA) and has managed to remain in the collective memory over the years. If everything goes according to plan, the show is coming to Twitch in summer 2023.
