2018 was the year with the highest percentage increase, as an increase of 68.7 percent was registered compared to 2017. In 2019, the trend remained positive, registering a 43.8 percent increase compared to 2018. Finally, and with the contraction of the sector due to the pandemic, the sales volume decreased 21.4 percent in 2020, although in both 2021 and 2022 the data increased considerably. For the next few years, this trend is expected to continue thanks to the economic and environmental benefits that they represent for their drivers.
At present, the debate on mobility has been installed in the political and social dialogue while seeking the best way to reduce the transfer times of citizens, both for work and leisure reasons. The good news is that innovative developments emerge every day that will soon avoid (or try to avoid) traffic in large cities like Mexico City. The issue today, however, focuses on caring for the environment, with companies obsessed with creating and designing vehicles that do not harm nature. It is no longer a matter of cars not polluting, but that neither do their production processes. The objective? Something that only a few years ago seemed unthinkable: reaching zero carbon emissions. A dream in which, although today it seems like a utopia, many brands are already working.
I encourage other manufacturers to bring electric cars to the market. Continuing to improve, making better and better vehicles, will allow humanity to get closer to the sustainable transport of the future. I wish the market would grow even faster.

What is already a reality is that, once it is assumed that the demand for this type of car continues to increase, it is necessary to continue developing the necessary infrastructure to accommodate this wave of electric mobility. Thus, cities must begin their modernization process, offering connectivity and a network of charging points, which is a priority for the Mexican market, the fourth in the world with the most cars sold with these characteristics (six million units).
A context in which almost all manufacturers already work with FEATURES forecasts and calendars conditioned by government decisions. For example, Europe wants to eliminate combustion engines and even hybrid cars by 2035 and seeks to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the transport sector by 90 percent by 2050.
Today, the automotive industry faces several of the great challenges of its history: the development of innovative mobility solutions, the increase in competition, the proliferation of new technologies and, above all and especially, the digitization, connectivity and personalization of the vehicles. Brands must offer more resilient and flexible products, as well as more sustainable manufacturing while adapting to increasingly demanding consumer preferences. Are we heading towards a fully electrified world? Everything seems to indicate yes. The electric future has become the present. The brands of the automotive industry are committed to revolutionary models that improve the driver experience with the most revolutionary technologies of the moment.
