There is not even 2022 left to give away, but we still have a few premieres in the bedroom before the end of the year bells ring. East December 16the premieres are not too many —which does not mean that they are not very interesting—, probably due to misgivings about competing against what, surely, will be the last great revolution at the box office of this film course. Let’s review the offer of the weekend.
The premieres of December 16, 2022
‘Avatar: The sense of water’ (‘Avatar: The Way of Water’, 2022)
- James Cameron returns to the charge to revive 3D in theaters with a new technical revolution that has required a Sony Venice camera modified into a stereoscopic rig for the occasion.
- The film is shown in Spanish cinemas in an infinite number of projection formats, including 2D, 3D, in HFR, at 24FPS, in IMAX rooms, in 4DX… There are options for all retinas.
- The cast includes old acquaintances such as Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver or Stephen Lang, who have been joined by performers such as Kate Winslet or Jemaine Clement.
- Edward Norton turned down the role, not because he was uninterested in the project, but because he was offered a human role and wanted to play a Na’vi.
Criticism in Espinof: ‘Avatar: The Sense of Water’ is a great war show: James Cameron returns to the epic adventure in a pharaonic blockbuster that is far from the best of the year
‘Little Nicolas’ (‘Le petit Nicolas’, 2022)
- It is the second film by Amandine Fredon —who debuted in 2018 with ‘Ariol prend l’avion’ and the co-directing debut of Benjamin Massoubre.
- It comes to our cinemas after winning the Best Film award at the Annecy Festival and after receiving a nomination for Best Animated Film at the European Film Awards.
- His visual style is inspired by the work of Jean-Jacques Sempé, co-creator of ‘Little Nicolás’ together with René Goscinny.
Criticism in Espinof: ‘Little Nicolás’ is a tender story about the creation of the character of Goscinny and Sempé to make us dream of an ideal childhood
‘EO’ (2022)
- It is one of the prestigious films of 2022, and is directed by the multi-award-winning Polish actor and filmmaker Jerzy Skolimowski.
- It lands in Spanish theaters after winning the Jury Prize at the last edition of the Cannes Film Festival and receiving a good number of awards from different critics’ associations and festivals.
- It starts from a premise as peculiar as exploring the world through the eyes of a donkey.
Criticism in Espinof: Cannes Film Festival 2022: among Belgian friends in the mountains and traveling with an adorable Polish donkey
Plus…
‘Aftersun’ (2022)
‘The yellow roof’ (‘El sostre groc’, 2022)
‘Once upon a time’ (1950)
