In 2020 it premiered ‘up to heaven’, film by Daniel Calparsoro (‘The silence of the white city’) starring Miguel Herrán (‘The paper house’). Although the story of this frenetic action film is fictional, the director admitted to being inspired by a real case that he discovered almost by chance.
Inspired by real events
‘Until the sky’ narrates how Ángel comes into contact with the criminal life of Madrid, when he meets the boyfriend of the girl he likes, who introduces him to his gang of robbers. Little by little, he is participating in more hits and dirty deals that will allow him to make a name for himself and gain a lot of power, although the price may be too high.
Daniel Calparsoro commented at the time that the idea for the film came in 2013. At that time, it was a project that was on the table but was kept in a drawer when the opportunity arose to shoot ‘One Hundred Years of Forgiveness’, in which he coincided with Jorge Gerricaechevarría.
Although at first another screenwriter was considered, the good experience working with Guerricaechevarría made him decide on him as the best option for the script for ‘Hasta el cielo’. He told her the story and they both began to investigate to shape it.
What really lit the lightbulb for Calparsoro was Manu Marlasca’s documentary about the aluniceros (jewelry merchants) in Madrid, in the program ‘Investigation Team’. He was very impressed by the level of organization of the gangs and that no film had been made on the subject before.
The director remarked that his intention was not to make a documentary or a biopic about it, but to make an entertainment film. Both the characters and the plot are fictitious.created exclusively for the film, although they are slightly inspired by real people.
The cast, in addition to Herrán, includes actors such as Luis Tosar, Carolina Yuste, Asia Ortega, Patricia Vico, Fernando Cayo, César Mateo, Áyax Pedrosa Y Jarfaiter.
‘Hasta el cielo’ is available on Netflix, where it has reached the top 10 this week and, in fact, the platform announced some time ago that it was interested in adapting the film to series format as a sequel.
