Our last name It has an origin that we often do not know. And the economic context of the country leads us to look for possibilities to emigrate. One of the most consulted on social networks is obtaining a nationality Europe, since the old continent shows a solid and stable economy, added to an order and facilities to project. Taking this into account, plus the facility of the language, if there is a country that everyone dreams of emigrating to, it is Spain.
Fortunately, it was recently learned that applicants for citizenship of the Iberian country can access it more easily. Since 2015, the Government of Spain allowed some people to acquire nationality as long as they have a last name of Jewish origin, since this sector was expelled from the European country in 1492. Thus, this law allowed the descendants of Sephardic Jews who were expelled from the territory in the 15th century to obtain the nationality from that country more easily.
According to what the media outlet ‘Semana’ reports, Law 12 of 2015, which is the one that initially allows access to Spanish citizenship for people who can prove that they have Sephardic origin, ended irrevocably in 2019. However, The Circular of the General Directorate of Registries and Notaries of September 9 of that same year introduced an option called ‘Nature Letter’ that was already known before and even appears in the Spanish civil code.
Consequently, if you have a last name with Sephardic Jewish roots, you can start the procedures to obtain the nationality of Spain. Although, it is necessary to clarify that in addition to this requirement, others are also requested, such as having the certificate of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Spain (FCJE) and knowing the landino language or “haketía”.
