Iran has been rocked by protests since the death on September 16 of Mahsa Amini, an Iranian Kurdish woman detained for allegedly violating the country’s strict dress code.
Iranian authorities say hundreds of people, including members of the security forces, have been killed and thousands detained in what they call “riots”.
Alidoosti, 38, was arrested on December 17 after posting on social media a series of messages supporting the protest movement and condemning the execution of protesters.
“My client has been released on bail today,” lawyer Zahra Minooee told the ISNA news agency on Wednesday.
Alidoosti is of considerable international renown and has acted in award-winning films by director Asghar Farhadi, including the 2016 Oscar winner “The Client.”
She went to the 2022 Cannes Film Festival to promote the acclaimed film “Leila and Her Brothers”, starring her and directed by Saeed Roustayi.
Celebrities and rights groups abroad had called for his release, including more than 600 artists such as British actress Kate Winslet or Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar.
The reformist Shargh newspaper published photos on Telegram showing Alidoosti reportedly after his release from Evin prison in northern Tehran.
In the image Alidoosti smiles while talking on the mobile phone with a bouquet of flowers in her hand and surrounded by supporters. In another photo, she is seen in a car as she makes the victory symbol with her fingers.
Alidoosti’s last social media message was posted on December 8, the same day that 23-year-old Mohsen Shekari became the first person to be executed in connection with the protests.
“His silence means support for the oppression and the oppressor,” the actress wrote on Instagram.
