Although his career as a filmmaker has taken off in the last decade, Muschietti’s interest in telling stories in an interesting way has led him through a career in cinema that dates back to the 1990s.
Andy Muschietti was born on August 26, 1973 in the province of Vicente López, located in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Curious about working in the industry, Muschietti studied at the Universidad del Cine, where he graduated in 1990.
Their first steps
Muschietti received his first breaks in 1996, when he was a production assistant on the feature Evita, directed by Alan Parker and starring Madonna and Antonio Banderas.
He also worked in productions such as Fotos del alma and Una noche con Sabrina Love, by filmmaker Alejandro Agresti, in the year 2000.
In 1999 Muschietti presented his first short film Nostalgia at Table 8, with which he participated in the third edition of the Historias Breves contest, organized by the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts.
the big opportunity
In 2001, Andy Muschietti and his sister Bárbara moved to Barcelona, where they both worked as publicists until 2008, when they founded their own production company.
In 2008 Muschietti wrote and directed the short film Mamá. a supernatural thriller that tells the chilling story of two girls who went missing in the woods the same day her mother was murdered.
Years later they are rescued and start a new life, but discover that someone or something still wants to tuck them in at night.
This short film draws the attention of Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, who is looking for Muschietti so that Mama becomes a feature film that Del Toro produced, with the direction and script of the Argentine filmmaker.
All float
With the box office success of Mamá (with income of 150 million dollars, which was achieved with a 15 million dollar budget), Muschietti took over the direction of It, a film based on the book by Stephen King, to which director Cary Fukunaga previously resigned.

Muschietti proved that he didn’t need a big budget to make a blockbuster, and with $30 million he directed and produced It, which became one of the most successful horror movies ever, for which Warner Bros. it gave him the confidence to carry the sequel.
From the terror of Derry to the speed of the DC Universe
On August 29, 2019, after filmmakers such as Seth Grahame-Smith, Rick Famuyiwa, and the duo Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley stepped aside, Muschietti was chosen to direct the Flash tape.
The Scarlet Sprinter tape is a production that gave DC several headaches, but Muschietti put great order in his work, by appointing Barbara Hudson as a screenwriter, based on previous drafts delivered by writers of the stature of Grant Morrison, who adapted Flashpoint.
“Our Flash movie is based on Flashpoint, but it won’t be exactly like Flashpoint… Our movie is inspired by the original comic book saga. So you will find many surprises and new events, and many exciting things that are not in the comic.”.
After a series of delays, some derived from the Covid pandemic, The Flash will finally have its premiere in movie theaters on June 15, 2023, by Andy Muschietti, a director who is here to stay in the Universe. DC.
