With the premiere of the second season of the series Selena Quintanilla Now available on Netflix, the life of the queen of Tex-Mex once again causes fascination among the public, especially the romance with her former bandmate and later her husband, the musician Chris Perez.

How Selena met Chris Perez

“I don’t remember a lot of the details of that day because I was in such a state of shock when it all happened,” Pérez said of the big day during an interview with Texas Monthly published in 2010. “I was thinking, ‘Oh, God, let’s do that. . Oh God, what are we doing?’ The next thing I remember is when they declared us husband and wife.”
Unfortunately, the marriage would only last three years, because years later Yolanda Saldivarfriend and president of Selena’s fan club, killed the interpreter with a shot from behind.
“It was traumatic, it was the hardest thing I had to go through up to that point. I still miss her face, her laugh. She was just an amazing soul, an amazing spirit,” Chris Perez told E! Entertainment.
What happened to Chris Pérez after Selena’s death?
Pérez has said that after the death of his wife, he was devastated and even he took refuge in drugs and alcohol in order to face his grief. The guitarist was only 22 years old when he married the legend (he is currently 51) and on more than one occasion he has remembered her over the years.
Three years after her death, in 1998, Pérez met Vanessa Villanueva and gave love another chance. Together they had two children whom they named Noah and Cassie. However, in 2008, the couple divorced and since then, the famous has not had a new lasting relationship.
Later, his profession reunited him with AB Quintanilla to form Kumbia All-Starzbut shortly after he moved away once again from Selena’s family to create the Chris Perez Projectwith which he announced that he would return to music with new producers.
In 2012, the widower of the interpreter of ‘Forbidden love’ wrote a book titled To Selena, with Love, where he gave details of how his life was as a couple and the challenges that they overcame together in their relationship. The book served as a way for her to move on, plus she was able to dispel some rumors, like the one that Selena was pregnant when she was killed.
Four years after its publication, Pérez shared plans underway to turn her book into a television series, but a lawsuit from the singer’s father, Abraham Quintanillatruncated that dream, and now the widower and Selena’s father will face each other in a trial that will take place in February 2023.
