The plot that has involved Patience Lee in the uniform of kick-ass comes to an end. It has not been easy to stand up with the power of the mafias to destroy them from within. Now Panini Comics He puts one last obstacle in his complicated path, none other than Hit-Girl.
Friends forever
Mindy McCready’s relationship with Dave Lizewski is way above what we might consider a normal friendship. Life led them to share something more than parties and fun, heartbreaks or small dramas of youth. No, Mindy and Dave have scattered bodies together, watched her father die of a gunshot to the head after being tortured. Mindy and Dave are blood brothers, even if it is foreign and runs through rivers that they themselves have generated. What they have done for each other places them in a special status, one in which no one can pretend to dirty the other’s name without having to pay for it.
So when Hit-Girl finds out about the activities of this new kick-ass, who leads the underworld of Albuquerque, cannot allow the figure of the hero created by Dave to become part of a criminal gang to be related, it will have to be above his corpse and we already know that it is not easy at all. When we refer to Hit-Girl we are talking about big words, an unscrupulous murderer trained since she was a child to be the best at what she does… and she doesn’t paint or color, she cuts off heads and leaves bodies turned into bullet strainers, she doesn’t care about the ammunition caliber.
I don’t like the enemy of my enemy either
Trying to explain to Mindy that Patience’s activities are honorable despite appearances is useless. Her point of view is not that, nor is she going to see it well, no matter how pretty she looks. At a certain moment she may have a common goal but for her Kick-Ass cannot play that role and will do whatever it takes to get revenge against the person who now wears her costume. Therefore, once the entire criminal society of the city has been dismantled, all that remains is to reach the final confrontation with the impostor, even if she has to put all the meat on the grill.
The work carried out by Steve Niles (also creator and screenwriter of The October Faction) and Marcelo Fruisin (whom we discover in Hellblazer, in the stages of Warren Ellis, Mike Carey or Brian Azzarello) has been of the most outstanding since they picked up the witness, in the second volume, from the hands of the creators of the Kick-Ass character, Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. Both have shown us Patience’s ability to deal with extreme situations thanks to her military training and experience, as well like the determination to eradicate organized crime from his city.
The future is not written but this is not the end
When we come to the last page of this compilation of the five issues, which were published in the USA as a separate limited series under the title Kick-Ass vs. Hit-Girl, we realize that the story is open to a future continuation, so for now what seems to be clear is that the path of Patience’s adventures is more than closed but the adventures of Kick-Ass will continue in the future. And it seems that it will be uncertain because the clues that the authors leave us are rather scarce.
In general and in summary, the plot that we have been able to follow in the four volumes of The New Girl has left us with a good taste in our mouths and an outcome totally full of action and frenzy, as we could not help but expect being Hit-Girl for means, medium. We are therefore left with that very cinematographic farewell of… a certain character will return. In pure and hard Spanish… KICK-ASS WILL BE BACK.
