Given the unexpected popularity and the good forecasts that Chanel Terrero is reaping for Eurovision, the hypothetical next edition of 2023 in Spain is already being discussed.
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) gives the option of organizing next year’s edition to the public television of the winning country (with the exception of Australia). From RTVE, Eva Mora (head of the Delegation) and María Eizaguirre (director of Communication) trust in their possibilities: “At RTVE we are absolutely prepared to be able to celebrate this festivalwe obviously want to win, and we want to do it”.
Regarding the possible venue of the festival, Eizaguirre assures: “The host city has to be a very powerful citythere is a series of requirements that are essential that the organization itself marks them as having a nearby airport, having a certain hotel capacity in that city, spaces…” and adds: “In Spain, there are already several cities that can do itbut this is another process in which we would have to follow the model of how other countries have done through a public tender”.
Possible candidates
Some of the cities that have already publicly declared their candidacy to host the festival in 2023 are Valencia and Torremolinos. Joan Ribó, mayor of Valencia, declared about this: “that he come to Valencia is something that we propose and that could be interesting”.
For its part, the Torremolinos City Council pointed out that Valencia already has its Benidorm Fest and stresses that “it will be an opportunity to continue celebrating major events in Torremolinos and an opportunity for our province, for Malaga and the Costa del Sol”.
After the first semi-final, Eurovision continues to be the theme of the week but it will not be known until Saturday May 14 if the good omens for Spain are finally fulfilled.
