sexual awakening
In 1991, Pam is a teenager with one goal: to lose her virginity. Throughout five hilarious episodes of her life, we will see how she tries to find the right person for her purpose and most of the time she messes up.
It is a short film created and scripted by Pamela Ribón, screenwriter of movies like ‘Moana’ and ‘Ralph Breaks the Internet’, series like ‘Samantha, what?’ and comics like ‘My boyfriend is a bear’ and ‘Slam! The Next Jam’. The direction is in charge of Sara Gunnarsdóttirwho has participated in the animation of films such as ‘The diary of a teenage girl’.
the short film adapts the autobiographical book ‘Notes to Boys: And Other Things I Shouldn’t Share in Public’, also written by Pamela Ribon herself. It is divided into five parts, one for each attempt by our protagonist to discover the world of sex.

With a lot of humor, the story shows what it is the sexual awakening in adolescence, passing it through the filter of animation and representing in very creative ways the different steps that Pam is taking towards her “goal”.
Undoubtedly, the highlight of the short is its animation, made with rotoscoping and getting the characters to move naturally, in contrast to the more surreal moments, in which colorful and very crazy elements are introduced to visually capture Pam’s mood and her doubts.
The story is set in the 90s but talks about something as universal as adolescence, with its funniest parts and its setbacks. It also reveals some point about the taboo imposed on female sexualitytreated with irony but without wanting to ignore a problem that we continue to drag on today.
‘My year of dicks’ is a fun short for adults and teens about sexual awakening, with great animation that makes it a strong candidate for the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film.
