The Argentine’s contract at Paris Saint Germain (PSG) expires at the end of June and Inter Miami have been strongly linked to the World Cup winner. But the 35-year-old is earning salaries of around $1.1 million a week, which would violate the league’s financial restrictions.
According to Spain’s Sport newspaper, Major Lague Soccer’s 29 clubs are in talks about a special structure that would see them contribute money if the former Barcelona player moves to the United States.
The bosses of this league believe that if Messi joins, the income of all teams from advertising and merchandising will increase.
Each of the clubs would finance part of the player’s £900,000 a week ($1.1 million) salary. If the agreement is finalized, the attacker can choose a team, either in Miami, New York, Los Angeles or Atlanta.
However, Messi has not defined his future despite offers from Al-Hilal and another for his return to Barcelona.
