After the announcement of the death of seymour stein -music executive and founder of the label Sire Records– the 2nd of April, Madonna resorted to his account instagram to share many photographs showing him with him, as well as post a long message in which he recalls their first meeting and the talent he had to notice the singer’s artistic potential.
“(Seymour Stein) was one of the most influential men in my life!! He changed my world and shaped it. I must explain. I harassed a DJ named Mark Kamin for a year in a club called danceteria! Early ’80s. He finally agreed to play my demo of a song called “everybody” on a Saturday night. The club was packed. There was a man from Artists and Repertoire of SIRE Records: michael rosenblatt. He listened to the music and asked if he could take me to meet his boss. seymour stein. I said, ‘Hell yeah’! fast enough!”
The Queen of pop explained that his meeting with Stein was unusual: “When I met him, he was lying in a hospital bed wearing his underpants! He had a cannula in his nose and a saline drip in his arm! I carried my boom box giant ready to play my cassette for him right away! He smiled and laughed when he saw me, and he asked me if I was related to the Virgin Mary! He knew we would get along. I played the song a couple of times. He signed me to his record label that same day! That moment changed the course of my life forever. And it was the beginning of my journey as a musical artist. Seymour not only listened to me, he saw me and my potential! For that I will be eternally grateful! I am crying as I write this. Words cannot describe how I felt at that moment after years of struggling and being broke and having all the doors slammed in my face.”
Finally, Madonna highlighted Seymour’s talent as an entrepreneur and his great taste in music.: “He had an ear like no one else. Dear Seymour, you will never be forgotten!!! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! 🙏🏼 💙. . Keep shining!!!”
