As I stated in my review of the film, I have no proof, but I also have no doubt that ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ is the feel good movie of the year —especially for those of us who already enjoyed ‘Ragnarok’; And it is that the new adventure of the marvelous superhero led by Taika Waititi has once again flooded the MCU with the most free and uninhibited fun and good vibes.
Thor, Gorr and Jotace
Of course, being a story centered on the God of Thunder and whose main villain calls himself the Butcher of Gods, deities had to be the order of the day; a good part of them being represented during the scenes set in Eternity, a location where we can see Zeus or the goddess Bastet.
But beware, because as revealed by Taika Waititi and Tessa Thompson in an interview with BBC Radio 1, Jesus Christ himself was about to have his personal cameo in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: “There was supposed to be a cut to, you know who. The Big J”.
Unfortunately, the surprise appearance ended up being scrapped, probably for avoid entering the always swampy grounds of religious offense and potential “with Muhammad they dare not” comments; but having even considered it only demonstrates the levels of madness and creative freedom that preside over Waititi’s contributions at Marvel Studios.
In fact, the filmmaker admitted to Empire Magazine that ‘Love and Thunder’ is one of the most insane projects that he has managed to bring to fruition.
“Well, just between you and me—and the readers—I’ve done some crazy shit in my life. I’ve lived like ten lifetimes. But this is the craziest movie I’ve ever made. If you write down all the elements that make up this movie , it shouldn’t make sense. It’s almost like it shouldn’t be done. If you walk into a room and say, ‘I want to do this, this and this. Who’s on it? These people. What are you going to title it? Love and Thunder’ . You would never work again. Maybe I won’t after this.”
