Retired from the court for two decades, Larry Joe Bird is considered a living legend of the NBA after the 13 seasons in which he always defended the Boston Celtics jersey.
During his time as a small forward he won three championships, the first by beating the Houston Rockets, in 1982.
Later, thanks to his talent, the Celtics defeated the Los Angeles Lakers in 1984; and again in 1986 they beat the Houston Rockets.
Additionally, Bird was also the NBA Finals MVP in 1984 and 1986.
As if this were not enough, at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, he won a gold medal as a member of the original American basketball team colloquially called the “Dream Team.”
For this and many other achievements, the former basketball player originally from Indiana amassed a fortune estimated at nearly $130,000,000 million dollars, which once he retired, he doubled through several lines of business that included restaurants, cosmetic brands, women’s clothing, and even a brand of Vodka.
Although at the end of his career he decided to settle with his family in West Baden Springs, his hometown, Larry Bird also acquired several properties in key points in the United States such as Florida.
Nevertheless, Of all his properties, a peculiar residence stands out that he had built in 2001, in Naples, Florida.
The property consists of 6,007 square feet. It has a spacious living room, properly equipped kitchen, four bedrooms, four bathrooms, a movie theater, bar, swimming pool, boat dock, and four-car garage.
In 2013, the former Celtics player decided the time was right to sell it. largely due to the high amount of taxes and the high cost of maintenance that owning it represents.
At that time, he launched it on the real estate market for $4.8 million dollars, but not finding an interested party soon, months later he reduced the original price by $200,000.
However, no one raised a hand for it for three years, so he decided to keep it, even though he and his family spend very few days there.
Truth be told, Naples is one of the quieter places in Southwest Florida, where most of the residents are from the upper class, accustomed to playing golf on its courses and at a certain time of the year to watch dolphins. Perhaps therein lies the complexity of selling a mansion like that of the idol of the Celtis.
