The journalist presented a report in Wake up America about the moving story of this young man from Guadalajara, Mexico whose life was changed forever by a tragedy. humberto romano He was one of those injured by the explosions on April 22, 1992 in the Analco neighborhood, in the capital of his native state of Jalisco.
The accumulation of gasoline in the drain was the cause of the tragedy that left more than 200 people dead and almost 1,200 homes affected. Among the houses affected was Humberto’s, where he lived with his 80-year-old grandmother and his mother, who unfortunately lost her life.
On the other side of the world, Prince Carlos was moved by the tragedy in the Mexican city and decided to donate apartments for the survivors. The then child and his grandmother were two of the beneficiaries of this action.
The first meeting between the two took place in February 1993, when the Prince of Wales arrived in Guadalajara to visit the apartments that he had donated to all needy families. There was Humberto, who did not hesitate to make a request: to help him improve himself and learn English.
The member of the British royal family grabbed his head and replied “everything is possible.” A month later, the young man received a letter informing him that he would receive a scholarship to study English.
His second communication occurred after the death of Princess Diana, in 1997, when Humberto went to the British consulate in Guadalajara to send a message of condolences to his benefactor and received a thank you letter from the royal palace.
In 2001 they met again, this time in Mexico City, and on that occasion the monarch asked him about his grandmother, who had passed away at that time, for which he later gave the young man a message of encouragement and hope, who he is now a successful professional with a doctorate and several master’s degrees on his resume.
In that 1993, the British press baptized Humberto Romano as the “adopted son” of Prince Charles and now he is looking for a way to attend the coronation of the now King of England.
