The German expilot arrived in 2020 when Claire Williams, daughter of team founder Franck Williams, had left the company for good. She ends her tenure with the team at age 64 with a tenth and final place in the 2022 constructors’ standings.
Technical director François-Xavier Demaison, who arrived in 2021, also says goodbye to the team.
“Williams Racing will announce the names of its new Team Principal and Technical Director in due course,” the statement read.
“It has been a great privilege to lead Williams for the past two seasons and lay the foundation for the return of this great team,” Capito said.
Matthew Savage, president of the US investment fund Dorilton Capital, owner of Williams, thanked Capito for his commitment to the brand.
“We are grateful to Jost for putting off his plans to retire to accept this challenge, and will now hand over the reins to us for the next stage of our project” of turning the tables on what was once a prestigious team.
