If, in addition to being a movie buff, you are a gamer and you comb gray hair, surely titles like ‘Fernando Martin Basketball Master’, ‘Abu Simbel Profanation’ or ‘Hundra’ (inspired by the movie of the same name) bring back good memories. And they all had the same name behind: Dynamic. For eight years, the golden age of Spanish software had one of its highest standards here. A story of success and failure that Javier Olivares now intends to turn into a series.
From NCM to bankruptcy
‘Dynamic’s story’ is a book written and researched for more than a decade by one of the greatest experts on the subject, Jesús Martínez del Vas (JMV for friends), which tells how the three Ruiz brothers set up a small business shipping homemade games by mail that they manufactured themselves and ended up earning 140 million pesetas a year before going bankrupt shortly after. And it is that in Spain we also have our own ‘Halt and catch fire’.
Now, according to Deadline, Blackbox Media (‘Narcos’) and EO Media have announced the development of a dramatic series about the origins of Dinamic. And no one better to hold the reins than the creator of ‘The Ministry of Time’ and one of the most recognizable showrunners with his own name in our country: Javier Olivares. According to the producers, it is a cross between ‘WeCrashed’, ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’, ‘Silicon Valley’ and… ‘Luis Miguel’. We will have to see what comes out of this mess. This is what Javier Olivares says:
Dinamic means talking about the Spain of the 80s, when I was young. When many of us refused to accept that Madrid was a black and white city while London and New York were pure technicolor. It shows the creativity that spoke and speaks Spanish to the whole world. Without complexes and with pride.
The idea of the series, at least in these first ups and downs, is to work with the Ruiz brothers to show you at different times throughout these crazy years. Will we be in a few months talking about new phenomenon of the moment? Who knows.
