This weekend the bomb went off on NBCUniversal. Jeff Shell, his CEO, presented his resignation after leading the company for 19 years. A mutually agreed resignation between the executive and Comcast (the parent company) that has been taken on the back of an investigation into a complaint of inappropriate conduct.
An unfaithful relationship (the executive is married) that the Shell itself admits in an internal circular distributed to NBCUniversal employees this Sunday. In it, the executive affirms that he deeply regrets the facts:
“Today is my last day as CEO of NBCUniversal. I had an inappropriate relationship with a woman at the company, which I deeply regret. I apologize for disappointing my colleagues at Comcast and NBCUniversal, they are the most talented people in the industry and it has been a privilege to have the opportunity to work with them.”
an on and off relationship
According to Deadline, this inappropriate relationship I would have kept her with Hadley Gamble, journalist and presenter of the news channel CNBC specializing in Middle Eastern affairs. Something that would have lasted for about eleven years on and off until a couple of years ago, when it came to an end.
It is not clear, yes, the nature or origin of the complaint recently presented and that finally ended up revealing both the relationship and a series of emails between them, which violates the company’s policies.
At the moment there does not seem to be a successor for Shell in his position as CEO of NBCUniversal. Mike Cavanagh and Brian L. Roberts (respective Comcast Chairman and CEO) will directly oversee the decisions of the Shell team. The news comes, also just a few days after the company have your meeting with investors around first quarter earnings.
