we talk brought together Pol Granch and León Leiden, two of the most interesting singers of the moment. Of course, we had to discuss this with Pol.
By Alberto Rojas Eguiluz
When we met Pol Granch a couple of years ago with his album I have to calm down, immediately the warning lights were lit to follow what he does step by step. On that path we came across that the Spanish singer recently did a duet with Leon Leiden, the song is called we talk and it was the pretext to talk to Pol about what he has on his mind.
How did the collaboration with Leon Leiden come about?
It came up the first time I came to Mexico four or five months ago and it happened because a colleague of Leon’s brought us together in the studio to compose. I’m happy with the result because I’m taking with me a great friendship and a song that I love.
What caught your attention about Leon to make a song together?
It was not something that I had thought of before, when we got together to work, he brought me such a beautiful song that I fell in love with his project and his thinking head because we had many very similar things. I liked it so much that this song is going to be on my next album. The process of this song was 100 percent organic, we connected from the first moment.
How do you compose on your own, when you don’t collaborate with anyone?
One of two: either I sit down and start composing, or an idea, a phrase or a melody comes to me and I record it in my mobile voice notes, and then I develop it, but the thing is to build once they reach me the ideas.
What music do you currently listen to?
I’m listening to a lot of very varied music, I’m a lot into blues. I’m listening to Elvis a lot, I just saw his movie and I loved it, also BB King. On the other hand I love house, pop, electronic, I’m browsing many genres and I love what I’m finding.
What is your history with music, how did you fall in love with it?
It was because of the family environment because I was lucky that both my mother and my father have always loved music. My grandparents, along with my parents, instilled in me and my brothers to be close to music, I am very grateful for that because to this day this is my life.
What do you like most about dedicating yourself to music?
I think that each thing has different energy and momentum. I love the process of composing and I also really like, but in a different way, getting up on stage and seeing that people know and have learned a song.
Do you have any album or artist that has changed your life?
Mine was a process. A few years ago I started listening to Madrid Pimps, he is a super versatile artist and I really like what he does. Also Oscar and the Wolf, when I started listening to both of them something changed in me. I have always considered that I compose the way I do thanks to what I listen to and the experiences I have acquired.
It’s still early to talk about your next album, but it seems that you almost have it ready, what difference will it make with the previous one?
Well look, I’ll tell you that I’m a bit stubborn because I made this album a bit fast, I like to make many songs, the difference is that I see more reflected than in the previous one and I love that because it means that I am expressing myself better and better , that I am evolving.
