Although some of the protagonists of ‘Shingeki no Kyojin’ (‘Attack the titans‘) they have a plot armor impressive and many others have been very close to death, in the anime fall characters like flies and He has left us a good number of really shocking deaths and from which it is difficult to recover.
The world of ‘Shingeki no Kyojin’ is devastating and cruel, and yet the author of the manga Hajime Isayama he says that he still should have gone further in the final story arc.
Many deaths, but with little meaning?
Although he had the main idea for his manga pretty well defined when he started writing it, Isayama admitted in a joint interview with Makoto Yukimura, the author of ‘Vinland Saga’, that the story grew much larger than he originally planned.
So As ‘Shingeki no Kyojin’ got bigger, it had to add more and more characters to fill the needs of the plot. Precisely from what would be season 4 of the anime, many new characters are introduced on Marley’s side, such as Gaby, Falco or Onyankoponwhich even steal quite a bit of prominence from the main players so far.
Despite all the new characters it introduces, Isayama still wishes he had included more, since that way he could have killed more during the plot.
“The number of characters in ‘Shingeki no Kyojin’ has grown a lot from what I originally envisioned. When I think about it now, I wonder if there have been enough of them,” said the mangaka. “I think it would have been nice to give Jean and the others on Marley’s side a friend, and have caused quite a stir by taking them out.”
Isayama thinks that adding more secondary characters would have given more strength to Eren’s transformation into a villain, as it would have caused even more personal tragedies to his friends and acquaintances, not just background characters. According to Isayama, the “sins of Eren” and all the crimes he commits in the last arc of the story would have been much more serious, so it would have been much more difficult for him to atone for them.
