The race of Will Smith changed forever during the last Oscar gala, but not by what it seemed at first. The actor made good predictions and took home his first gold statuette for his work in ‘The Williams Method’, but before that he assaulted Chris Rock and that’s what we all remember. He himself is aware of this but he hopes it doesn’t penalize the crew of his new film.
Will Smith’s answer
Smith is currently in the middle of a promotional campaign for ‘To Freedom’, a film that under normal conditions looks like material for the Oscars. In an interview they have asked him openly about What would you say to those who are not yet ready to see a new film of yours?to which he replied the following:
I completely understand if someone is not prepared. She would respect that and give them the space not to be. My biggest concern is my team. I think Antoine Fuqua has done the best job of his career. The people on the team have done some of the best work in all of his careers. My great hope is that my actions do not penalize the team. Right now I’m working on it. I hope the material, the strength of the film, the timelessness of the story… I hope the good it can do will open people’s hearts to at least see, recognize and support the amazing artists in and around this film. movie.
A fairly balanced response but that at least conveys a more naturalness than the apology that he launched months after the Oscars and that Rock did not accept. Now we will have to see how the public reacts, which in the end will be the one who decides whether Smith’s career can recover of what happened or if you have received irreparable damage.
For now, Smith has lost several projects due to what happened, some paralyzed and may end up moving forward, while others were definitively cancelled. We recently got the first signs that his “cancellation” might be coming to an end, but I suspect that the reception given to ‘Hacia la libertad’ is going to be what ends up passing the sentence.
