Taron Egerton has been making headlines lately for the possibility that he will be the actor chosen to play Wolverine in the new iteration of the X Men that prepares Marvel. Of course, the protagonist of ‘Kingsman: Secret Service’ was about to be Cyclops in the prequels of the original saga released by Fox and now he has explained why he rejected that possibility.
“The eyes are the windows to the soul”
During his time on a new Sway In The Morning program, Egerton talked about various topics, but the most striking thing was when he spoke for the first time about the rumor that he was about to sign on to be Cyclops in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse ‘. He had no problem admitting that he was serious about it, but he also the main reason he was never interested:
I don’t mind saying: that was a real thing, it was a real conversation. I’ve never said this, actually. To be honest, the reason that conversation never went any further is because I didn’t want to play a character for a potential series of movies that I wouldn’t see my eyes on. For me, I felt instinctively, creatively, that the eyes are the windows to the soul. It was a challenge that I did not find intriguing. Not that it was ever offered to me, but there was a conversation, a real conversation, that never went any further.
The paper finally ended up in the hands of Tye Sheridan, who would play him again in ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’, the last installment of the saga before Disney decided to park it for the benefit of an inevitable reboot. Sheridan didn’t do badly, but his version of his character wasn’t particularly memorable either.
For my part, I have no doubt that Egerton would have been able to deliver an interesting take on Cyclops, but I also suspect that would have limited his chances of playing another Marvel superhero. And it is that It hits him much more to be Wolverine than Cyclopsthe truth…
