DC Comics not only knows how to win recognition such as the Eisner Awards, the Oscars are also awards that have written the history of the publisher

Although DC Comics knows what it is to win awards such as the Eisner in the world of comics, or the Emmy for its television productions, the Oscars are no strangers to this publishing house.

    Superman

You will believe that a man can fly, was the premise with which Richard Donner introduced us to Superman on the big screen, a character who debuted in the pages of Action Comics #1.

The feature film starring Christopher Reeves, Margot Kidder and Gene Hackman earned four Oscar nominations, of which it only won Best Visual Effects. The other shortlists in which Superman was considered is Best Sound, Best Editing and Best Soundtrack.

    Batman

Eleven years had to pass before DC Comics had a presence at the Academy Awards, thanks to the film directed by Tim Burton, and starring Jack Nicholson, Michael Keaton and Kim Basinger.

Batman only got the nomination for Best Production Design, which could be brought to his showcases, thanks to the work of Anton Fust and Peter Young.

    batman returns

Once again Tim Burton returned to the reins of a production dedicated to Batman (Michael Keaton), with Michelle Pfeiffer and Danny DeVito, who played Catwoman and The Penguin. The tape was one of the highest grossing of 1992, but its reception generated divided opinions.

The second Dark Knight film, directed by Tim Burton, was nominated for Best Visual Effects and Best Makeup, but the feature film went zero at the ceremony held on March 29, 1993.

    Batman Forever

Joel Schumacher wrote his name in the history of DC Comics in the cinema with Batman Forever, a film more focused on the family, with a stellar cast headed by Val Kilmer, Tommy Lee Jones, Jim Carrey, Nicole Kidman and Chris O’Donnell.

Batman Forever achieved three Oscar nominations, for Best Cinematography, Best Sound Editing and Best Sound, but in the three shortlists there was no award for this film.

    Dark Knight

13 years away, DC Comics made a strong return to the Oscars ceremony with The Dark Knight, the second film in Christopher Nolan’s trilogy, which at the time became one of the most nominated.

Richard King took the statuette for Best Sound, while Heath Ledger won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. Ledger died six months before the premiere of The Dark Knight, so the delivery of his recognition was posthumous.

    suicide squad

The Extended Universe of DC Comics had its third release in Suicide Squad, after Man of Steel and Batman v Superman. David Ayer’s tape raised controversy, but against all odds, this feature film was nominated for the Oscars.

Alessandro Bertolazzi, Giorgio Gregorini and Christopher Nelson, the ones in charge of Suicide Squad Makeup and Hairstyling, won the statuette in the 89th edition of the awards ceremony.

    joker

In 2019, Todd Phillips’ film burst onto the scene, captivating both fans of the clown prince of crime, film critics, and members of the Academy, who considered this feature film for 11 nominations.

Within the framework of the 92nd Oscar delivery, Joker managed to win two Oscar Awards, Best Soundtrack, by Hildur Guðnadóttir, and Joaquin Phoenix took the statuette for Best Actor, thanks to his role as Arthur Fleck / Joker.

    batman

The new film by Matt Reeves added his grain of sand to the history of DC Comics at the Oscars Ceremony with three nominations for the 2023 installment.

The Batman competes in the categories of Best Sonico Editing, Best Visual Effects, and Best Makeup and Hairstyling.
