We all know the desire that the Führer had for everything related to the figure of Christ, and especially for those objects that according to the Nazis would make the Third Reich invincible. But it can be said that among all those sacred pieces there was one that had a special attraction for Adolf Hitler: The Holy Grail. Perhaps because of its supposed powers as a fountain of eternal youth, or because it symbolizes the biological children of Jesus.Who knows what moved the minds of these macabre characters who, even today, fill books and history books.
There were many searches and trips made by the Nazis in order to find the precious Grail, and although there is no evidence that they found it (or that it really existed), there are graphic and personal testimonies of those unique inquiries. At Supercurioso we have dedicated ourselves to investigating, and today we will tell you the true story of Hitler and the Holy Grail. Join us!
1. The true story of Hitler and the Holy Grail
Perhaps the plot that marks the story of Hitler and the Holy Grail, and the amazing search of years, reminds you in some way of the movies of “Indiana Jones»and it is that many of the aspects that were presented there were real:
The Deutsches Ahnenerbe, or “Society for Research and Teaching on German Ancestral Heritage” created by Heinrich Himmler, had as its main objective to search for the origin of the Aryan people. and their consequent evidence capable of justifying their racial superiority.
This singular group was made up of anthropologists, archaeologists, doctors and scientists, having their “operations headquarters” in the castle of Wewelsburg, in Westphalia, where they had to take all the “precious relics” they found.
The curious thing about all this is that They associated the rise and leadership of Hitler with magic, with supernatural artifices capable of erecting certain men at the pinnacle of power, thus leaving the shadow of “magic” always in the bases of the followers of Adolf Hitler, Himmler being his main admirer, both obsessed with the occult and astrology.
2. The steps of the Nazi crusade in search of the Holy Grail
To fully understand the history that links Hitler and the Holy Grail, it is necessary to stop at one name: Heinrich Luitpold Himmler. This Nazi officer was one of the main leaders of the party and a trusted man of the Führer. So much so, that he was even appointed, for a brief period, as military commander of the Replacement Army and general plenipotentiary of the administration of the entire Third Reich. He was one of the most powerful men in Nazi Germany and, in addition to his ideals of greatness, he also shared with their leader an utter obsession with the Holy Grail.
It was this obsession that led him to study with dedication the work of the German Otto Rahn, specialized in Cathar culture., who had done a lot of research on the subject, associating the Holy Grail with the Cathar movement. But it was not enough to know, to feed on hypotheses. The story of Himmler, Hitler and the Holy Grail had to go further.
The inclusion of Otto Rahn in the SS
To make things easier on the quest for the Holy Grail, the first step was surely to get Rahn into the SS. In this way he could be part of the expedition that traveled to the French region of Languedoc, origin of the Cathar heresy and possible location of the descendants of Christ. With his help and knowledge, it could be easier to find the great find. But, Did Hitler find the Grail at that location? Obviously not, and even worse, Rahn froze to death on top of the Wilden Kaiser, in Austria, following what for many was a kind of ritual suicide that he associated with Cathar culture.
The search in Spain
The second step for Himmler and Hitler was Spainspecifically Montserrat, in the western Catalan valleyfollowing the same path as Parsifal, in his particular search for the Holy Grail, and which was also narrated in the opera by Wagner, Hitler’s favorite composer.
They arrived at the castle of Montsalvat hoping to find the fountain of eternal youth. But, did they find the precious object? No. The encounter between Hitler and the Holy Grail was resisting. Again they had to assimilate another failed company. Wagner’s interpretation could be due to both Montserrat and another castle with a similar name: Montségur, located in France. The really curious thing about this expedition is that the abbot of Montserrat, Antoni María Marcet, refused to receive them knowing the contempt that Hitler had for the Catholic Church. He said he did not know German and thus avoided having to be present at such an uncomfortable meeting.
However, some sources went so far as to say that the Nazis left there not very disappointed, Among their suitcases they managed to take some relevant information about the relic… What were those documents about? Unfortunately, we do not know, the only thing we know is that, later on, the search for the Grail was replaced by another, even more challenging task: finding the Spear of Longinus, also called the Spear of Destiny, and with which Hitler would achieve success.
3. Hitler and other sacred objects
The story of Hitler and the Holy Grail was not an isolated affair. The German leader was greatly influenced by the symbolic value of the objects, which It led him to pursue a few artifacts that he considered sacred. One of them was the Stone of Scone, a piece on which the kings of England are crowned. and that, according to the belief of the Nazis, it was the same one in which Jacob leaned before dreaming of the ladder that led to God. That stone was in Westminster Abbey and it is said that members of the esoteric section of the SS tried to steal it, without achieving their objective.
Another object that is added to this list and that was a search target for the Ahnenerbe was the Spear of Destiny, a piece with which the Roman centurion Gaius Cassius Longinos wounded Christ on the side.. There were four spears with a similar history, but the Nazis were convinced that the authentic one was the one that rested in the Hofburg Museum in Vienna. When the Third Reich annexed Austria, the spear finally fell into Hitler’s hands. The legend was that its possessor would be blessed with eternal victory, while whoever lost it would be doomed to defeat and death.
Indeed, hours before Hitler’s unproven suicide in his Berlin bunker, American soldiers had managed to obtain the Spear of Destiny. Subsequently, its authenticity was verified, and its origin dating from the VII and VIII centuries.
As you will see, the story of Hitler and the Holy Grail refers to the psychology of a man and an entire group, convinced of superiority and a destiny of greatness that led them to commit the worst atrocities.
The chalice from which Jesus Christ drank at the Last Supper has obsessed many, who have ventured to make different hypotheses about where the Grail could be hidden.
The reality is that there is no evidence that it exists or existed, but it is symbolically associated with such greatness that it represented an obsession. The obsession of a man who recognized, in one of the most impressive hitler quotes: “Tomorrow many will curse my name”.
