The media were not allowed to photograph the event, nor were the organizers to broadcast in real time on social media. Ocean abruptly closed his performance by saying, “Gentlemen, I’ve been told it’s time to wrap up, so this is the end of the concert.”
Magazine Variety described the presentation as “messy, limp, near-disaster that will likely go down in history as one of the most controversial Coachella shows“.
In a statement released by Ocean’s publicists on Wednesday, the singer said: “It was chaotic. There is beauty in chaos.”
“It wasn’t the show I intended to do, but I enjoyed being here and I’ll see you soon.”
According to Variety, Ocean will be replaced by Blink-182.
The pop-punk trio surprised fans over the weekend with the original band’s first performance in nearly a decade.
The show had been announced two days earlier.
Coachella representatives did not immediately respond to AFP’s requests for information.
