After a very long hiatus from the end of Part 8 of ‘JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure’, the next arc of Hirohiko Araki’s manga has finally begun: ‘The JOJO Lands’. Until now we had been seeing some images of its new protagonist and we had some somewhat ambiguous synopsis, but the first chapter of Part 9 has already been read in Ultra Jump magazine.
Be careful, this article contains spoilers about the new ‘JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure’!
Two young men seeking their fortune…
We had already seen some images of our new “JoJo” and we can start by confirming his name: fuck joestar. Leaving the tusks aside (because the Spanish name is going to have a tail, we already know), it remains to be seen if Araki is slapping us in the face with the not so hidden meaning of his nameand that he may be related to the Brando family.
As the plot progresses and we see, there are some things we do know about the new protagonist. input, Jodio is 15 years old and lives in Hawaii with his mother: Barbara Ann Joestarwho is the sister of Holy Joestar-Kira and the daughter of Joseph Joestar and Suzy Q. Since she was 11 years old, Jodio earns a living doing some errands for the local mafia and their drug trade.either transporting money, merchandise, or doing other types of work.
How could it be otherwise, Jodio also has his own stand called november rain. November Rain looks a bit different than the humanoid Stands we’ve seen so far and it’s unknown how far his abilities go. Mostly, we’ve seen that he can drop projectiles the size of a baseball from the sky, although he may have more hidden powers.
Jodio is not the only protagonist, since the first chapter of ‘The JOJOLAnds’ has also introduced us to his brother, Dragon Joestar. He is a little older than Jodio, at 18, and uses Smooth Operatorsa Stand made up of many smaller Stands that can manipulate matter.
Dragona works in a fashion store and is quite a kind person. Despite the fact that everyone uses masculine pronouns, Dragona refers to himself in the feminine and acts and dresses in traditionally feminine clothes, so could be confirmed at some point as the first trans member of the Joestar family. Perhaps later it will be determined as a non-binary character, but in the meantime we will have to wait and see.
A new job on the horizon
The main thing we know right now about the plot is that these descendants of Joseph Joestar they are looking to make a fortune and they will become “filthy rich”, although it is not in the most legal way in the world.
As well as introducing us to the two new Joestars, ‘The JOJOLands’ has introduced two other key characters. The first is Paco Lovelantes, a thief who also owns his own Stand. the other is Meryl May Qi, the director of the institute where Jodio studies, the owner of the boutique where Dragona works… and also the leader of the local mafia.
According to information from his boss, the group must steal a precious diamond which has just arrived on the island in the possession of a Japanese tourist. NowLet’s see how they manage and if the mysterious tourist is a character we’ve already seen in the manga.
The JOJO Lands
Despite the crazy things that happen in ‘JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure’, Araki has given us a small blow of realism because it seems that this reality was also affected by the covid and at one point Dragona comments on her concern.
Despite this, no character wears a mask, and since the mask requirement was lifted in Hawaii on March 25, 2022, we can assume that ‘The JOJOLands’ occurs after this date in 2022 or even directly in 2023.
Yeah ‘Steel Ball Run’ and ‘JoJoLion‘ already mixed elements of the previous parts of ‘JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure’ in their own way, it is quite possible that Araki is repeating the play with ‘The JOJOLands’.
In this case, Jodio Joestar might be somewhat inspired by Giorno Giovanna, especially seeing that we are already getting into mafia and crime themes, although there could also be references to ‘Stone Ocean’ as it has a story set in the United States.
In any case, Araki has left us a massive first chapter to introduce us to this new stage of ‘JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure’. Next month we will have a new episode of ‘The JOJO Lands’ to continue seeing how this branch of the Joestar is doing.
