Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and company have just closed season 2 of ‘Star Trek: Picard’ with ten episodes that have taken us by leaps in time and traumatic doors for some of the characters. Now, we have to wait for season 3.
A season 3 that will be released soon by Paramount + (in Spain we hope that Amazon Prime Video) and that will be the last of the trekkie fiction. So, with last season’s finale still warm, let’s review everything we know about these final episodes of the science fiction series.
The history
With the threat of season 2 neutralized, we have few clues about the future of the series in terms of plot. It does raise some questions about how this curvature tunnel that is guarded by the Borg will evolve since “it is a piece of a puzzle that carries an implicit threat”.
Also pending is what about kore, the character of Isa Briones who at the end of the season is signed by Wesley Crusher for Los Viajeros. Besides, it remains to be seen whether the “Khan project” of Kore’s father remains a mere nod to the origin of the villain or if the crazy eugeneticist plans to give more war.
Although they do not release pledge, Patrick Stewart wanted to share that what awaits us is among the best they have done:
“When I first read the Season 2 finale, I remember one of the things I said was ‘Where the hell are we going to go from here?’ because it almost seemed like a conclusion. I thought for a moment “Oh, are we going to close soon and the series will disappear?” But we didn’t. And Season 3, in many ways, has proven to be some of the most interesting episodes and moments that we’ve had in the entire series.”
The cast
After the end of season 2, it seems that we will have a rather reduced main cast: Patrick Stewart, Jeri Ryan and Michelle Hurd It will be the leading trio. Of course, although his future is ambiguous, we cannot rule out the presence again of Isa Briones and Evan Evagora. The one that does seem to not return is Alison Pill, who has confirmed her absence.
Be careful because if we have already seen some other character from ‘Star Trek: The New Generation’ around here, season 3 of ‘Picard’ brings a large part of the crew of the Enterprise: LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Jonathan Frakes, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, and Brent Spiner They have confirmed their presence in these new episodes.
In Stewart’s words, these will not be cameos:
“We will meet them, but it is not a comeback at all. It is not a simple meeting. They each have their role and that’s all I can say, because I think what’s coming in Season 3 is very exciting. And, of course, there’s a lot of it in the way the characters we’ve known for so long have evolved.”
Plus, we’ll probably get new appearances from Wil Wheaton and Whoopi Goldberg.
The filming
The best news we can have is that season 3 of ‘Star Trek: Picard’ it’s already shot. In fact, both seasons were written together and some of the scenes were shot alongside those of the second. The shoot itself ended on last march.
In the direction we find the usual Jonathan Frakes together with Terry Matalas, the co-showrunner of fiction
the release date
Although there is no specific date,or more likely is that season 3 of ‘Star Trek: Picard’ will land on Paramount + sometime in 2023. In Spain it is usually seen via Amazon Prime Video but, yes, since the “Discoverygate” it would not guarantee anything. Especially when SkyShowtime prepares its launch in our country.
Trailer and images
