Evan Peters, known for his most recent work on the series Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story announced that he will move away from dark roles to prioritize his mental health.
For years, the actor has given life to dark characters that have taken a part of himself from him. A few years ago, Evan confessed that playing Kai Anderson in the seventh season of american horror story It was extremely hard, as he lost contact with friends, family, and even with himself, a situation that led him to undergo psychological therapy.
It was very hard. That season, really, took a lot from me. I lost contact with many friends and family. It was really very hard. Kai, at that time, was killing his family. […] That parallelism was very intense. I didn’t realize I was so sad.
Even Ryan Murphy, director of the series, noticed that something was not right with Evan at the time and came to feel guilty for making him part of such a shady project for years.
He really suffered while doing it (playing Kai). It took two years of rest and therapy to get the character out of his head. It was as if she had possessed him or taken control of his life.
After that experience, Evan hesitated to play Jeffrey Dahmer, not wanting to be trapped in the character’s obscurity once again.
Honestly, I was so scared by all the things that he did and immersing myself in it and trying to commit to it was going to be absolutely one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do in my life because I wanted it to be that way: be very authentic.
Fortunately, everything worked out for him, but going through a similar interpretation led him to make a crucial decision for his career.
During a recent interview for ComicBook, Evan said that he needs to take a break from these types of dark roles for his own good, even confessing that he is interested in returning to Marvel to be a superhero.
Of course he would be in another Marvel movie. Dahmer was really the last dark character that I’m going to play for a long time, it was kind of a farewell to that, to working hard at it, I want to do anything in the light, I’m just trying to stay out of the dark for a while.
His followers have been in favor, since they would like to see him in other types of characters and situations, because they believe that his talent has been both typecast and wasted by Hollywood.
