It’s been four months since we were able to enjoy the first preview of ‘Elemental’, the brand new Pixar movie. Back then, we could only take a look at the surprising visual power that the production boasts, but today, with its new trailer, We have finally delved into its history and characters to discover that, in effect, we are looking at a Pixar work.

The couple of minutes and a half that the aperitif lasts serve to verify that the feature film will offer us a 100% house brand experience… with a certain flavor of déjà-vu. And it is that the premise of inanimate entities with emotions —in this case elements such as fire and water— discovering the world around them and facing their fears and insecurities is close to becoming a cliché within the animation studio.
However, I have a good deal of hope for its director, Peter Sohn, who directed the irregular ‘Arlo’s Journey’ and who more recently has lent his voice to Sox, the robotic cat who stole all the spotlights in the unfairly battered ‘Lightyear’. Sohn himself thus explained in the last D23 the germ of the tape.
“My parents immigrated from Korea in the early 1970s and built a busy supermarket in the Bronx. Ours was among the many families who ventured into a new land with hopes and dreams all mixed up in one big salad of cultures, languages, and beautiful neighborhoods. That’s what brought me to ‘Elementary.'”
Mamoudou Athie and Leah Lewis lend their voice to the leading couple of an ‘Elemental’ that will be released in theaters next June 16. We’ll see how it works at the box office after the hit of the spin-off of ‘Toy Story’.
