One of the sequels still to be done that has given the most talk in recent years is ‘Edge of Tomorrow 2’. Since shortly after the premiere of the first installment in 2014, work has been underway on a continuation of the wonderful science fiction film starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, but the project has never finished moving forward. Now it is its female protagonist who wanted to explain the reasons for this.
“I would love to do another one”
The actress recently gave an interview to Deadline, where she talked mostly about ‘The English’, the series she starred in last year, but she has had time to talk about other topics. For example, she has not wanted to say anything about whether or not she appears in the next movie in the universe ‘A Quiet Place’, while about the sequel to ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ she has commented the following:
I would love to do another. I don’t know when and I don’t know how, but I would love to. I am not sure that my back is going to resist it.
I loved the experience of doing the first one and would love to work with Doug Liman again. It looks like we have to create something as ambitious as the first one. How much more can we get out of a repeating day? What is the new construct?
What seems clear is that ‘Edge of tomorrow 2’ is still a long way from being made, if that happens at all. Let’s remember that it was in 2017 when the returns of Cruise and Blunt were confirmed, while two years later the script was finished, only for Liman to affirm the following year that there was still a lot of work ahead.
Already in 2022 it was learned that Warner seriously considered the option of a television spin-off, but certain legal problems caused that project to also be paralyzed. Everything points to the fact that someone needs to have a great idea and that some scriptwriter knows how to squeeze it. so that ‘The Edge of Tomorrow 2’ has a real chance of being made, but also that right now there simply isn’t anything to hold on to beyond the desire of those responsible for making it. But not at any price.
