The end of ‘Drag me to hell’ (2009) lived up to its title. It was the return of Sam Raimi to terror and it left the impression that there was nothing more to tell regarding that particular story, but it seems that not everything has been said in that world. The director of ‘Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness’ flirted with terror in that Marvel contribution and now It seems that there are plans to return to his curse.
real possibilities
Raimi commented to the Bloody Disgusting page in 2019 that the reason a sequel was never made was because the ending of the first movie seemed very final:
“I don’t have a story, because in my mind the character was killed or worse. So I didn’t know how to proceed with the sequel. Usually, for me, I’ll stick with a character that I really care about or a concept that I really feel needs to continue. But this is such a definitive ending that in my mind I didn’t know where to start with a sequel.”
But now it seems that the door is not closed for ‘Drag Me to Hell 2’ but that there is active work on it. During a Reddit AMA chat this week, Sam Raimi said his team is trying to come up with a story for a sequel:
“The Ghost House Pictures team – Romel Adam and Jose Canas – are trying to come up with a story that works and I can’t wait to see if they do.”
‘Drag Me to Hell’ earned $90 million at the worldwide box office in 2009, and has had a growing fan base in recent years, so it’s not uncommon for Ghost House to continue on that streak, after unveiling ‘Evil Dead Rise’ in April. . On the other hand, Raimi talked about a horror movie that he could direct himself, although he doesn’t seem to be referring to the sequel:
“I hope I can be directing soon, I’m working on a horror movie with my brother Ivan and another movie with some close friends, maybe it’s one of those two.”
