The sixth season of Black Mirror premieres on Netflix screens for June 15 of this year, after presenting a delay in its release of 4 years.
The creative process of this new edition went through the edge of ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence platform that has gained followers in recent months.
Charlie Brooker, screenwriter Black Mirrorstated during an interview with Empire that used this AI-powered language resource ChatGPT to get an episode script for this series. Although one might believe that few things are as related as ChatGPT and Black Mirror, but this did not go well.
“The first thing I did was write ‘generate episode of Black Mirror‘ and something appears that, on first glance, seems plausible, but on second glance it’s bullshit. Because all you do is look up all the Black Mirror episode synopses and mix them up,” Brooker explains.
Although the result of the talk between Brooker and ChatGPT did shed light on one aspect of his creative process. As she comments, the script that he considered “disastrous” and that was made by the tool helped him to realize that on occasions he had created characters without a background or that they really didn’t do much good.
It must also be considered that the ChatGPT tool needs more specific instructions to have a result that is closer to what it is looking to do, so the result was not short of having so few criteria to prepare a satisfactory answer.
