Brendan Fraser’s career has resurfaced from his cinemas and he is currently one of the great favorites to take the next Oscar for best actor thanks to his performance in ‘The Whale’. It is a matter of time before more succulent roles arrive and now he himself has shown his interest in doing ‘The Mummy 4’.
Surely many still remember his unforgettable Rick O’Connell who debuted in 1999 in ‘The Mummy’, the stupendous adventure film directed by Stephen Sommers. Then two more sequels would come and it all seemed that the saga was going to stay in a trilogy, but Fraser has made it clear that he is willing to return:
I don’t know how it would work, but I’d be open to it if someone comes up with the right idea.
Surely in the Universal offices they must already be thinking about what they can do to make it happen. That we live in times in which sequels that seemed impossible are going to be made. Very recently we have the announcement of ‘Constantine 2’ and for me great to a fourth installment of this franchise, that anything will be better than the unfortunate ‘The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor’.
What was missing in the version of Tom Cruise
In addition, Fraser has also spoken in a talk with Variety about what he thinks was the reason why the version of ‘The Mummy’ starring Tom Cruise:
It is a difficult film to make. The ingredient we had in our Mummy that I didn’t see in his movie was fun. That was what was missing in that version. It was a very direct horror film. ‘The Mummy’ should be a thrill ride, but not scary and creepy. I know how difficult it is to get it, I tried to do it three times.
To be fair, the character’s origins are rooted within the horror genre, so it made sense to go for such an approach. But it is that in addition to lacking fun, that ‘The Mummy’ It was a disaster on every level.
