He coffee It is one of the most popular infusions in the world, so its consumption in anyone is common, either in the morning, as a snack or before bed. This drink, according to experts, should not only be consumed for flavor, but also for the benefits it brings to health. It is that recent investigations revealed that it can combat the obesity while reducing the risk of suffering from diabetes.

Why consume coffee to prevent obesity and control diabetes?

According to a report published in the British Medical Journal (BMJ), the high consumption of caffeinated beverages without calories will reduce body fat and guarantee a decrease in the risk of suffering from diabetes type 2. The study is verified at the genetic level by the international team led by Susana Larsson, from the Institute of Environmental Medicine of the University of Stockholm (Sweden).

To carry out this research, previous studies were taken as a reference that proposed taking 3 to 5 cups of coffee daily, with about 70-150 milligrams of caffeine, to reduce the risk of diabetes type 2 and cardiovascular diseases. These tests were observational, so Larsson and his team implemented the Mendelian randomization technique, which relates cause and effect to genetic testing.

Their conclusion is that there are two common genetic variants of the CYP1A2 and AHR genes associated with the speed with which caffeine is metabolized. For this reason, people with genetic variants with slower caffeine metabolism drink less coffee average. Contrary to people with a higher metabolism who have higher levels of caffeine, therefore, higher levels of caffeine in the blood are linked with a lower Body Mass Index (BMI) and a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

In tune, the team stated that the coffee stimulates metabolism, increases fat burning and reduces appetite, helping to combat obesity. A daily intake of 100 milligrams increases energy expenditure by about 100 calories per day. Likewise, control over the risks of suffering diabetes.
