This new European failure of the extravagant payroll of Paris Saint-Germaon is not going to do more than uncover the box of thunder from the French capital, with a big question mark: Will there be a third episode of ‘MNM’? And who will be the one or those sacrificed: Neymar, Messi or Mbappé? Will the coach, Christophe Galtier, pay the piper again, as happened before with Pochettino, Tuchel or Emery?
Far from the level that can be expected from a squad built to the punch and with many of the best players in the world, Paris SG was clearly inferior in the 180-minute tie to a Bayern that is once again among the eight best teams in the continent.
Despite the defeat in the Parque de los Príncipes, PSG wanted to show early that they were not giving up the tie for loss and after two minutes Kylian Mbappé already warned with a first shot that was saved by the Swiss Yann Sommer.
Bayern put the game on, but PSG, with a much more active Lionel Messi than in the first leg, was dangerous against the German goal.
The Argentine had a good chance, but the Canadian Alphonso Davis avoided it with a great defensive gesture (25)although the clearest came from the Portuguese Vitinha, who did not take advantage of a big mistake by Sommer and his shot into the empty goal was taken by Matthijs de Ligt on the line (38).
Goals by Choupo-Moting and Gnabry
On the Bavarian side, the clearest chances to score were those of Leon Goreztka, with a long shot that was very safely saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma (16), and that of the young Jamal Musiala, a powerful left-footed shot that the Italian goalkeeper from PSG sent for a corner ( 32).
The task of coming back from the tie became a little more complicated for the French champion when, in the 35th minute, their captain, the Brazilian Marquinhos, had to leave the field due to a blow to his ribs that he suffered last weekend and was replaced by Nordi Mukiele. , who was returning from injury and barely lasted ten minutes, was in turn replaced at half-time by the 17-year-old El Chadaille Bitshiabu.
After the break, Bayern came out ready to seal the tie and Choupo-Moting had the first in a shot that he rejected by Danilo and the rebound fell at the feet of Joshua Kimmich, who smashed his shot into Choupo-Moting’s body (51 ).
A minute later, the Cameroonian striker headed a Musiala cross into the net, but the goal was ruled out for offside by Thomas Müller.
And the third time was the charm: Verratti lost the ball in his own area and Goreztka served Choupo-Moting to beat Donnarumma (61) at will.
París SG barely had half an hour left to score two goals with which to force extra time and Sergio Ramos almost achieved the first with a header that Sommer took off with a great performance (64).
But that shot was almost the only occasion PSG had that never seemed in a position to force extra time. On the contrary, Bayern were adding chances to score the third (69, 72 and 75).
Bayern also proved to have a high-quality bench and Serge Gnabry sentenced the pass at 89 on the counter. The humiliation could have been greater if the goal scored in discount by Leroy Sané, another of the luxury substitutes, had not been canceled for offside.
The French, Brazilian and Argentine stars did not have time to show off their genius and advance.
