Once again Alan Moore did not keep what he thinks of superheroes, to the point of comparing the adoration of these characters as the principle of fascism
Although he is one of the most important writers in the comics industry, Alan Moore continues to disagree on how adult audiences view superheroes, comparing this worship to fascism.

Although Moore gave us epic graphic novels such as V for Vendetta, Watchmen, Batman: The Killing Joke, Promethea and others, the British has been one of the most critical voices against the superhero genre.
In an interview for the British newspaper The Guardian, Alan Moore did not hide his concern about the way in which adults admire heroes of the stature of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and more.
“Back in 2011 I already said that I was very concerned about the implications for the future that millions of adults around the world queued up to see a new Batman movie. I think that kind of infantilization, that drive to live in simpler times, in simpler realities, can very often be the precursor to fascism.”.
The author of Watchmen pointed out that the reaction of adults to superhero movies in recent years is worrying, added to the fact that this cinema is an entertainment aimed at children.
“Hundreds of thousands of adults lined up to see characters and situations that were created to entertain 12-year-olds… All of this is happening when that audience was kids 50 years ago. I never thought that superheroes were for adults”.
Alan Moore’s mea culpa
Even Alan Moore points out that in this adult fascination with superheroes, the author is to blame for it.
“I think it all stemmed from a misunderstanding that was born in the 1980s. I also have my share of blame, although it was not intentional, since that was when comics like Watchmen first appeared. It seemed like comics had ‘matured’ but there are only a few adult titles“, specifies.
Moore noted that his love for comics will not wane, but the current state of the industry is one he will not tolerate.
“I will always love and adore the medium of comics, but the comics industry and everything associated with it just became unbearable.”.
Years ago, Moore pointed out that this cult of superheroes did not contribute to seeing the future, since the nostalgia for past times is still valid.
“(With superheroes) we find the nostalgia of the last century possessively dominating the cultural field and refusing to allow this unprecedented era to develop a culture of its own, relevant and sufficient for the times.”.
