“It’s possible. We started talking about it, but one year it was the World Cup, (20)24 is the Euro Cup, this year (the final) is in Istanbul, on the 24th in London and on the 25th in Munich and after that, We’ll see,” Ceferin told the Men in Blazers podcast.
“Soccer is extremely popular in America these days. Americans are willing to pay for the best. So they will follow European soccer like basketball lovers in Europe follow the NBA.”
“What struck me (about the US audience) was that the final phase of the Euro Cup was seen by more people in the United States than the NBA finals (…) During 30 Euro Cup games, the audience was like the of the Super Bowl.”
He super bowl this year it attracted an average of 113 million viewers on US television and digital platforms.
However, Ceferin said the time difference was a problem, especially if they were playing in the afternoon on the Pacific coast, which would cause matches to start around midnight in Europe.
In accordance with Sports Business Journal which references this podcast statement, there have already been discussions about whether such a move is a viable possibility.
The United States will host the 2026 World Cup along with Mexico and Canada.
