ColaCao Energy is one of the most consumed shakes among children and young people. Using a synonym for energy, parents expect their children to get through the school day with as much spirit as possible. But is it really energizing?
In recent weeks, the announcements of ColaCao Energy have not ceased to publicize the new large format. Until now it was only available in 200 ml cartons and 188 ml bottles. However, before continuing to bet on this dairy product for breakfast and snacks, we will analyze whether it is really healthy.
Ingredients and nutritional value
To find out if ColaCao Energy is healthy, the main thing is to analyze its ingredients. Specifically, it is made up ofpartially skimmed milk, sugar, defatted cocoa, starch, aromas, mineral salts (dicalcium phosphate and zinc sulfate), stabilizers (E 339, E 471, E 407) and salt«.
In addition, for each 188 ml bottle, we find the following nutrients:
- Energy: 122 calories
- Fat: 1.5 grams
- of which saturated: 1.1 grams
- Carbohydrates: 21 grams
- of which sugars: 20 grams
- Dietary Fiber: 0.8 grams
- Protein: 6.2 grams
- Salt: 0.33 grams
- Calcium: 239mg
- Phosphorus: 199 mg
- Zinc: 2.1mg
Mainly, it is a product rich in fast-absorbing carbohydrates. This is due to the main presence of semi-skimmed milk and added sugar. It is not a very interesting product in terms of nutrition for the little ones. If we want to increase your protein intake, it is recommended to choose another type of dairy.
not energizing
Although its main claim may be that it maintains energy for several hours, no energizing substance is found in its ingredients. On the one hand, it generates safety in children because it is made up of ingredients suitable for any age. However, it is false advertising. In fact, on their social networks they say that “Energy” is the term they decided to put on a product that is gluten-free and suitable for all audiences. Nevertheless, contains lactose.
On the other hand, the amount of sugar obtained in each small bottle is alarming. 20 grams of sugar, from semi-skimmed milk and added sugar, exceed the recommended daily sugar levels for children. Natural sweeteners could be introduced to reduce sugar consumption in children, although gastrointestinal problems could also be noted at young ages.
Taking into account that this dairy product seeks to be a mixture of milk with cocoa, it is best to prepare it at home in a homemade way. Only skimmed milk will be required (we can use one fortified with proteins) and defatted cocoa powder. In this way we make sure to consume quality nutrients and avoid chemical preservatives.
