After several documentaries and television series that they covered up the scandals of the emeritus king and covered them with a layer of folksy and in the spirit of the Transition, HBO Max has played it with ‘Save the King’, a three-episode docuseries that has scraped the blisters of more than one including unpublished audios recorded by the former monarch, Bárbara Rey (which has always been a very ironic name, really). HBO Max is so clear that everyone in Spain should see its production that it has put the first free episode on YouTube. There are no more excuses.
You will have big cars, yachts, scooters
Only a couple of weeks ago since ‘Save the King’ came to controversy (because of the acts of its directors, not because of its content, of course) streaming platform, and It has become the most viewed of HBO Max in Spain behind ‘The house of the dragon’. So it stands to reason that, as was done with the ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel, the first episode is posted on YouTube so that the public wants to see more.
Until now, the 46-minute episode has just over 5,500 views and it starts with a warning announcing that it can only be seen to criticize it later. Someone should have taken a look at the copy that was uploaded, really. It cannot be said that the movement has caused the expected mass successespecially considering that the trailer exceeds half a million clicks, but at any moment it can be triggered.
‘Save the king’ is a bit like the cross of ‘Felipe and Letizia’: if the latter served to extol the more traditional values of the monarchy, it seems that Juan Carlos I is no longer untouchable in the media. For now, HBO Max has moved piece. Will traditional television do it too?
