Deborah Chow talks about the difference between Obi-Wan Kenobi and other live-action Star Wars series.
Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi It arrives on May 27 at Disney + and will have a total of six episodes of about 40 minutes, with director Deborah Chow in charge of each of them. Chow had previously directed two episodes of the first season. The Mandalorian.
The series will follow the Jedi Master ten years after the events of Revenge Of The Sith, with Obi-Wan taking care of the “chosen one” a young Luke Skywalker as he grows up on Tattoine, finding new adventures in the process. Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen reprise their roles as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader respectively, joined by Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Moses Ingram and Rupert Friend.
In an exclusive interview with ScreenRant, series director Deborah Chow discusses how the series differs from other live-action Star Wars series, citing the structure of the miniseries. She says the six-episode limited story allows for more character focus through Obi-Wan’s journey and trauma. She goes on to say that the miniseries can dig much deeper into the character than a movie or season series would.
“I think one of the most special things about this series is that we were doing a limited series, and that’s something they hadn’t done before. And we’re also really focused on one character. So, it was a much more character-driven story that we’ve been trying to tell. For me, I was really excited about the idea of really digging into the character and having time in the limited series to do that.”
Other differences
What also sets the series apart is its direct relationship to canon, as The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett They have only been tangentially related to the core Star Wars canon, not spending much time on the main characters of the Skywalker Saga. Obi-Wan Kenobi should give more information about the events that took place between Revenge of the Sith Y A new hope. Above all, the part that concerns the episode of the Jedi purge.
Its leading man Ewan McGregor compared Obi-Wan Kenobi to a long movie, echoing Deborah Chow’s words when she talks about the contained nature of the narrative and how that benefits the story.
Another difference that we can find in Obi-Wan Kenobi is that it is the first live action series directed solely by a director, since The Mandalorian or The Book of Boba Fetthave had several filmmakers to direct the episodes.
Very little is known about the plot but we will find out on May 27 in Disney+, when Obi-Wan Kenobi is released. And surely we will be able to see the differences of this series with others already released so far in real action.
