“The decision was made after taking into account that the United States has demonstrated its exceptional ability to organize competitions of a global nature.“, FIFA explained in its statement, stressing that the attribution of the venue was made “unanimously” in a session of its Council held by videoconference from Zurich (Switzerland).
“In addition, the appointment will make it possible to take advantage of the synergies created with the celebration of the 2026 FIFA World Cupfrom which both competitions and the development of soccer in North America will benefit,” it added.
For the president of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, the expansion of the Club World Cup, which until now had been played in a reduced format of seven teams annually, will be “a historic event”.

The United States already has the required infrastructure and enormous interest throughout the country, making it the ideal host to host the first edition of this new competition”, estimated Infantino, quoted in the text.
“Now that some of the world’s biggest clubs have qualified, fans from every continent will travel to the United States in two years’ time with energy and enthusiasm for this historic event, which is part of our mission to achieve a really global soccer”, affirmed.
Furthermore, the FIFA Council decided “to postpone the official launch of the bidding process for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.”
The new calendar determines that the regulations for this process will be presented at the next session of the Council, in September or October, and from there “the process will officially begin.”
The appointment of the host or hosts of the event, which will be decided by the FIFA Congress, is also postponed “from the third to the fourth quarter of 2024”.
